Bears take Bostic in second round

Linebacker Jon Bostic was the third former Florida player taken in the NFL Draft when the Chicago Bears selected him in the second round with the 50th overall pick.

The Bears had a need at linebacker after not resigning Brian Urlacher in the offseason. Jon Bostic will be part of the group that helps replace Urlacher. He also joins former Florida safety Major Wright on the defensive side of the ball for the Chicago Bears.

"I'm very proud of Jon, he really worked hard for this moment," said Florida head coach Will Muschamp. "Last offseason, we sat down with Jon and told him the things he needed to work on and he really attacked those things. His hard work has paid off now and we wish him the best."

Bostic is the 19th former Florida player the Bears have selected, second only to the 24 selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He's also the first Florida linebacker drafted since Brandon Spikes in 2010.

After defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd and safety Matt Elam were drafted in the first round on Thursday, this is only the second time in Florida history that three defensive players have gone in the top 50 overall picks. The only previous time was in 1999. Recommended Stories
