| Biography: |
Lance Johnstone has been trying to prove that 1998 and 1999 were not fluke seasons. During those two years Johnstone registered 11 and 10 sacks, respectively, with Oakland, and those performances garnered him a chance at a big contract with Minnesota in 2001.
The first two seasons with the Vikings didn’t produced double-digit sacks, but Johnstone was able to push through for 10 sacks in 2003
2004: For the second straight season, produced double-digit sacks with 11 in 2004. Had 34 tackles as pass-rush specialist. His four forced fumbles tied his career high in that category. Johnstone and Kevin Williams became the first Vikings tandem to produce at least 10 sacks each since John Randle and Chris Doleman in 1993. Only two other tandems in the league did that in 2004. Moved into 11th place in Vikings history with 33.5 sacks and moved to 62.5 for his career.
2003: Used largely as a pass-rush specialist, produced 10 sacks, 16 hurries, six passes defensed and 25 tackles. Tied for sixth in the NFC in sacks. Named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after an interception for a touchdown, 1.5 sacks, two passes defensed and a fumble recovery against Denver on Oct. 19.
2002: Competed with Lorenzo Bromell for the primary pass-rushing right defensive end position, with Johnstone starting in all 16 games. Led the Vikings with seven sacks and added 62 tackles and 15 QB hurries.
2001: Started five games, all early in the season, for the Vikings, getting a career-high 58 tackles, 22 quarterback hurries, 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
2000: Started the first nine games for Oakland before having his playing time limited with a groin injury. Finished with 3.5 sacks.
1999: Led the Raiders with 10 sacks and started every game. He added 52 tackles.
1998: Had 54 tackles and a career-high 11 sacks while starting 15 games.
1997: Started the first six games in Oakland before an injury held him out of two games. He returned to a rotation after that but didn’t start any more games in 1997.
1996: Became a starter for the final 10 games of the season, ending with 32 tackles and a sack in his rookie season.
College: Played his final three years as a linebacker at Temple. Lettered all four years. Was All-Big East as a junior and senior and second-team all-conference as a sophomore. Set a school record with 288 career tackles.
