HIGH SCHOOL
Shane Simmons, a 2-way starter and All-League performer for Kentlake High, made a verbal commitment to play for the Vandals. From an article that appeared in The Seattle Times:

Simmons (6 feet 2, 215 pounds) also considered Eastern Washington, Idaho State and Southern Utah, among others, according to Kentlake coach Mark Torgerson. He was a two-way, All-SPSL North first-team quarterback and defensive back and was voted Offensive Back of the Year in the division. He was a Star Times all-area choice as a defensive back.

Torgerson said Simmons likely will play safety or outside linebacker at Idaho, or possibly even tight end.

"They wanted him as an athlete," he said.

Simmons amassed more than 1,650 yards in total offense for the Falcons, who lost to Lincoln of Tacoma in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs and finished 9-2. "He's relieved and excited," Kentlake coach Mark Torgerson told The Seattle P-I. "Shane is one of the best kids I've ever coached, and I've been coaching for 21 years."

With the size and speed to play multiple positions, Shane characterizes the 2004 recruiting class that has made verbal commitments to the UI. His ability to not only perform, but excel, on both sides of the ball should be an asset in getting on the field soon.
