The Oakland Raiders confirmed on Friday that they have signed defensive back Joe Porter.
Porter played collegiately at Rutgers University, tallying 94 tackles, five interceptions and 13 passes defended in 44 career games.
In 2007, Porter signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted rookie free agent, but was released during training camp. Porter then signed on with the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad and made his NFL debut in 2008 with the Packers.
Last year, Porter played for the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL. Porter also spent the last month of the 2009 NFL season with the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad.
At Rutgers, Porter also ran track and holds the school record in the 200-meter sprint. He was the Big East Conference indoor and outdoor champion in the 200-meter sprint, and also was a member of the 4x200 relay team that set a national indoor record.
