Raiders cut Davis; No official word on Sulak

The Raiders have officially released safety Keith Davis but the team isn't saying whether or not it did the same with rookie Stryker Sulak.
According to the team’s official website, Davis was given his walking papers on Monday, the same day when several outlets reported that the Raiders released Sulak, their sixth-round draft pick.
The move with Davis isn’t that surprising. Oakland already has four safeties on the roster with
Tyvon Branch
,
Hiram Eugene
,
Michael Huff
and second-round draft pick Mike Mitchell. Branch is penciled in as one starter while Eugene and Mitchell will compete in training camp for the other spot.
The call on Sulak, however, is perplexing if true. ProFootballTalk quoted an unnamed source as confirming that Sulak had been let go, but the NFL offices haven’t been notified nor did the Raiders list a move on their transaction page.
Head Coach Tom Cable could not be reached for comment, either.
If true, the move would be a serious head-scratcher unless something happened behind the scenes. Sulak didn’t seem to have any problems during the team’s OTAs and was reportedly at his home preparing for the start of training camp on July 29.
The report in ProFootballTalk.com, though, says neither Sulak nor his agent have been contacted by the team.
Wagaman’s take: Davis was a longshot to make the team to begin with simply because of the numbers Oakland already has at safety, so it’s not major news that he was cut. The Sulak situation is a little more strange. We’ll hold off passing judgment until we know for sure, but all indications are that it is. If so, there’s definitely more than meets the eye. Stay tuned.
