Raiders tackle arrested in Florida

The relative quiet of the Raiders offseason was broken with the news that right tackle Cornell Green has been arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
According to the Associated Press, Green, a two-year starter for Oakland, was taken into custody Saturday by police in Tampa, Florida after getting into an argument with the mother of his two children, 30-year-old Teriyonal Ebony Flowers.
Green allegedly slammed Flowers into a wall then hit her right arm with an aluminum mop handle. He then left the house and was eventually arrested at the Tampa International Airport where he was waiting to take a flight to Oakland.
Green was still in custody as of Sunday afternoon.
Raiders head coach Tom Cable was unavailable for comment but Green’s arrest can sit well with him. Since taking over as interim head coach last year and on through getting the full-time gig this year, Cable has emphasized the importance of character in his players and he’s gotten rid of those he felt weren’t meeting the standard.
Green’s spot on Oakland’s roster was already tenuous. He’s only been marginally effective since signing with the Raiders prior to the 2007 season and had a very poor year in 2008.
Oakland signed free agent tackle Erik Pears to push Green for the starting job in training camp. The Raiders could also move Mario Henderson over there if Khalif Barnes wins the starting left tackle job.
