Raiders to maintain status quo

Robert Gallery is staying at left guard and JaMarcus Russell is staying Oakland's No. 3 quarterback. That's the word from Raiders coach Lane Kiffin, who said he's not yet ready to make wholesale changes.

Robert Gallery was being explored as an option to take over for right tackle Cornell Green, who was placed on injured reserve earlier this week after injuring his right foot against Minnesota.

But rather than move Gallery, Oakland has chosen to stick with second-year offensive lineman Paul McQuistan.

"It's one thing if Robert was going to left tackle (instead of) changing his stance and everything in the middle of the year and having to go over there on the right side," Kiffin said Friday. "This is the best situation we could come up with."

Kiffin had also discussed the possibility of moving JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in the draft who has yet to play this season, up on the depth chart but instead opted to remain with Josh McCown as the back-up to starter Daunte Culpepper.

That doesn't mean Russell won't play against the Chiefs, though it certainly limit's the circumstances in which he could play.

The team may also have to make a change at free safety. Stuart Schweigert is listed as questionable with a calf injury and was held out of practice Friday. Jarrod Cooper and Hiram Eugene are possible replacements.

Wide receiver Jerry Porter is probable to play. Porter, who has been bothered by a sore knee, practiced Thursday and Friday and is expected to be on the field against Kansas City.
