The Oakland Raiders might have to work in another member of its rookie class, offensive tackle Langston Walker, a little sooner than expected.
Starting right tackle Lincoln Kennedy’s status is still unclear because of a concussion he sustained in Sunday’s 52-25 win over Tennessee. Oakland head coach Bill Callahan is optimistic that Kennedy will play Sunday’s road game at Buffalo. Kennedy, however, kept that optimism in check, as he was not cleared the practice Thursday.
Kennedy is expected to see a specialist today. In the past, when Kennedy was listed as questionable or doubtful there was little reason to panic. Kennedy has made 97 of 99 possible starts since joining the team in 1996 in a trade from Atlanta.
Walker, a second round draft pick, will start if Kennedy cannot go. Walker has spent much of his time practicing at guard but his natural position is tackle, where he started at California for four seasons. Cornerback Phillip Buchanon, linebacker Napoleon Harris and tight end Doug Jolley are other members of the Raiders draft class playing significantly.
Kennedy does not recall the specific play he sustained the concussion. Center Barret Robbins initially thought Kennedy aggravated a turf toe injury.
