Zack Crockett's ticket was punched when the Raiders signed fullback Justin Griffith this off-season.
Crockett rushed 39 times for 163 yards in 2006, averaging 4.2 yards per attempt with a long of 14. He has played in 174 games since entering the NFL in 1995, including a streak of 109 consecutive games played dating back to the fourth game of the 1999 season
The rest of the cuts were:
Offensive linemen Chad Slaughter, Mark Wilson, Jesse Boone, and Kevin Boothe.
Boothe was the surprise among the offensive linemen cut. The guard started 14 games for the Raiders last year after being taken in the sixth-round of the 20006 NFL Draft out of Cornell.
Wide receivers Carlos Francis, Alvis Whitted, and Chris McFoy.
No real surprises here. Whitted never separated himself from the pack and Mike Williams gets his shot with Kiffin. Johnnie Lee Higgins adds twice the excitement that any of the aforementioned players do.
Tight ends O.J. Santiago and James Adkisson.
Rookie Zach Miller will start and Tony Stewart is a capable backup.
Defensive linemen Anttaj Hawthorne, Dave Tollefson, Josh Shaw and Quentin Moses.
Moses, a third-round pick this season, was a major surprise given the Raiders need for a pass rusher opposite Derrick Burgess in passing downs. If he is around, expect him to make the practice squad.
Hawthorne has had his chance to shine but has yet to come to the forefront.
Linebackers Kurt Campbell and Kyle Shotwell.
Expect one or both to be placed on the practice squad.
Defensive backs Marquice Cole, Donovin Darius, and Eric Frampton.
Darius was a surprise after signing a one-year deal. The work of B.J. Ward may have had something to do with this - ditto for Eric Frampton, taken in the fifth-round this year. He would have had to made the roster based on his special teams play and there are clearly better options.
Kicker Tyler Fredrickson.
No explanation needed.
Also of note - no quarterback has been released from the current crop with JaMarcus Russell still not under wraps.
Running back Michael Bush was placed on the PUP list and will be eligible to come off the list after the sixth week of the season.
Dominic Rhodes is on the suspension exempt roster, meaning he does not count against the 53-man roster.
Statement from Raiders Head Coach Lane Kiffin:
“We wish the best for all of the players that were released today as there were some difficult decisions that were made. However, we kept the best 53 players for the future success of The Oakland Raiders.”
