Dominic Rhodes spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts after signing with them as an undrafted free agent in 2001 out of Midwestern State.
He rushed for 1,104 yards in his rookie season - his career-high - and had seen limited action until last year when his role was expanded after an torn ACL claimed the 2002 season.
After netting just 529 yards rushing from 2002 through 2005, Rhodes toted the rock for 641 yards last season, helping the Colts win the Super Bowl.
Rhodes was the Colts' leading rusher with 306 yards on 62 carries in their run through the playoffs. He capped his solid postseason by rushing for a game-high 113 yards in the Super Bowl.
A solid receiver out of the backfield, Rhodes sees himself as an explosive threat that can take it to the house at any time.
Rhodes had visited with the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills in the early stages of free agency before arriving in Oakland on Thursday night.
In Oakland, Rhodes will presumably compete with Justin Fargas for the backup role to LaMont Jordan.
