After releasing Kerry Collins and failing to lure Josh McCown to Oakland, the Raiders landed former New Orleans quarterback Aaron Brooks, signing him to a two-year deal.
The deal is reportedly worth $8 million.
With the Brooks signing, it appears Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo will remain the backups and it could eliminate the Raiders need to pick a quarterback early in the 2006 NFL Draft.
Owner Al Davis had a high opinion of Brooks, the deposed Saints starter who became available after being waived after the free agent acquisition of Drew Brees, and it became clear when he stayed an extra deal that a deal was imminent.
Brooks, who turns 30 on March 24, has 82 career starts, all with New Orleans, and has passed for 19,156 yards and 120 touchdowns (a New Orleans record) with 84 interceptions. He has battled bouts of inconsistency throughout his career and has often been prone to turnovers. He does, however, inherit an offense that has a lot of weapons, including Randy Moss and Jerry Porter.
He was benched with three games to go by the Saints in favor of Todd Bouman.
