TE David Ausberry to undergo knee surgery

Raiders head coach Dennis Allen announced on Tuesday that tight end David Ausberry requires knee surgery and will not play in the Raiders' first preseason game on Friday.

Ausberry missed all of last season's regular season after having to undergo surgery on his shoulder. Ausberry has been with the Silver & Black for three years after being drafted in the seventh round and has totaled nine receptions for 106 yards in 28 games.

The former USC wide receiver was currently atop the depth chart, but the injury now leaves a chance for second-year tight end Mychal Rivera the most likely to receive the first-team reps.

Rivera has the potential to fill in nicely and has had a good training camp, showing off his receiving ability consistently. The second-year tight end out of the University of Tennessee had 38 receptions for 407 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie year with the Raiders.
